134 athletes represent the largest Egyptian delegation in the Olympics
Engineer Hisham Hatab, head of the Egyptian Olympic Committee, announced that 134 players will represent Egypt in the Tokyo Olympics, stressing that they faced many difficulties to prepare the players for an additional year, whether those qualified for the Olympics or those looking for an opportunity to qualify, due to the Corona virus pandemic, due to which the Olympics was postponed for a year.
Hatab said during a press conference held on Tuesday: “We faced many challenges and difficulties, and the period of stopping sports activity was the most difficult, as well as preparing the players for an additional year, whether qualified or looking for the opportunity to qualify, and this challenge was very difficult, but with the concerted efforts and fruitful cooperation between the Olympic Committee. These difficulties were overcome until we qualified with 134 male and female athletes, to be the largest number in the history of Egypt’s Olympic participation.”
He added, “I thank all sports federations for what they have provided, and we are waiting for our heroes and heroines to compete in the Tokyo Olympics in order to obtain Olympic medals and raise the Egyptian flag high in all international forums, and we have great ambitions to compete for more than one medal in many games.” .
Meanwhile, Dr. Ashraf Sobhi, the Egyptian Minister of Youth and Sports, said that the Pharaohs’ delegation is the largest in the history of Egypt’s Olympic participation, and everyone is waiting to achieve Olympic medals.
He added: “We worked hard during the last period, and there were many difficulties that we faced, and the Egyptian state was the best supporter and supporter of sports and athletes and provided all capabilities for the success and progress of sports activity, and we became the front of the world to organize world championships, and we have many heroes who succeeded in competing for titles. We are waiting for them to confirm this at the Tokyo Olympics, and we have confidence in all members of the mission.”
