Al-Ahly stuns Esperance in Rades and sets foot in the African final
Al-Ahly of Egypt surprised its Tunisian host, Esperance, and scored a beautiful victory against them with a clean goal, Saturday, in the first leg of the semi-finals of the African Champions League. Al-Ahly showed the strength of his personality and deep experience with the major African matches, and became close to reaching the final of the tournament he already holds his title, knowing that he won it 9 times (a record). The only goal of the match was scored by young Al-Ahly striker Mohamed Sherif in the 67th minute, after being completely alone with Esperance goalkeeper Moez Ben Sharifiya. Al-Ahly midfielder Aliou Diang stormed the Esperance half of the stadium, and passed a wonderful ball to Sherif, who shot with his left hand at the post, and the ball bounced for him in front of the goal line and completed it into the net. Esperance’s attempts to return to the match failed, in light of the brilliance of Al-Ahly goalkeeper and Egypt’s national team, Mohamed El-Shennawy. The meeting was postponed for an hour, after confrontations between the Tunisian security forces and the Esperance fans, who attended in larger numbers than scheduled. The return leg will be held in Egypt next Saturday, while Morocco’s Wydad Casablanca and South Africa’s Kaizer Chiefs will face each other in the other semi-finals.
