Coulibaly complains of racism.. Fiorentina apologizes
Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly has revealed that he was subjected to racist abuse by Fiorentina fans after their clash in the Italian Serie A.
Italian sports newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport reported that Victor Osimhen and Andre Frank Zambo Anguesa were also attacked after Napoli’s victory. Coulibaly posted a picture of himself on Twitter, pointing at the fans, saying he had heard racist abuse from the stands and asking officials to intervene. Coulibaly said on “Twitter and Instagram”: The fans insulted me with the phrase “damn monkey.” These things have nothing to do with football. Those involved must be identified and banned from entering stadiums forever. There is no place for racism in sports. Nigerian striker Osimene published a statement on social media, which was republished by the Napoli club’s account on Twitter. The Nigerian international wrote: I invite you all to educate your children and relatives so that they know how disgusting it is to hate someone because of the color of their skin. Fiorentina condemned this incident. “Fiorentina condemns in the strongest and most severe terms this racist incident that occurred during the Napoli match,” he said in a statement. General Manager Joe Barron offered his personal apology after the match. Fiorentina have already provided the police with all the video footage of the match and everything that might help identify those involved in this reprehensible incident. Once the relevant authorities identify those involved, Fiorentina will themselves prevent them from entering the stadium and we hope that all other clubs will make similar efforts. The rules should apply to everyone. Napoli came from behind to win 2-1 at Fiorentina and remain the only team to have achieved the full mark of success in Europe’s top five leagues this season.
