Euro 2020 breaks the record for the reverse goals
Two goals scored by Slovakia in Spain’s 5-0 victory, brought the number of counter goals so far to 8 in the group stage of the European Championship (Euro 2020). There were only 9 goals in the 40 years of the tournament from 1976 to Euro 2016. The previous record for goals from a single tournament was 3, set in the 2016 edition. Not a single match in the tournament has previously seen two goals by one, but there were two goals in two matches last week, with Portugal scoring two goals on Saturday. The first goal of Euro 2020 was reversed, when Turkey defender Merih Demiral intercepted a cross with his chest and the ball rebounded, as the Italian team scored its first goal in its 3-0 victory over Turkey.
