European Championship.. Netherlands defeats Ukraine in an exciting match
The Netherlands returned in force to the major tournaments when they snatched a thrilling 3-2 victory over Ukraine in the European Football Championship on Sunday, after they appeared to give up their advantage by two goals. Defender Denzel Dumfries scored the winner five minutes from time, after Ukraine bounced back to equalize thanks to a stunning goal from Andriy Yarmolenko and a header from Roman Yarmashuk. The Netherlands dominated long periods of the exciting match in the third group, and deserved the lead in the 52nd minute, when captain Jorginho Wijnaldum rebounded from the goalkeeper, and six minutes later striker Faut Weghorst strengthened the lead of coach Ronald de Boer’s team. Dumfries missed a dangerous opportunity to open the scoring near the end of the first half, but he made up for it with a winning goal with the help of goalkeeper Georgi Buchan, who mishandled the ball.
