Kane’s extra-time goal puts England in Euro 2020 final
Harry Kane scored the winning goal in extra time to lead England to a 2-1 victory over Denmark at Wembley Stadium on Wednesday and advance to the Euro 2020 final against Italy. The Danish team advanced in the 30th minute with a superb shot from Michael Damsgaard from a 25-meter free kick. England equalized nine minutes later when Kane’s clever pass allowed Bukayo Saka to break through the Danish defense, sending a low cross that Simon Kerr deflected into his own net. But after the second half ended without goals, England booked their place in the final of a major tournament for the first time since 1966 when a penalty was awarded to Raheem Sterling after falling in the area under pressure from Joachim Mille. Although goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel saved Kane’s shot from the penalty mark, the England captain managed to follow the ball into the net, scoring the winning goal.
