Qatar Football Association announces that Salem Al Hajri will not participate in the 2021 Gold Cup

The Qatar Football Association announced that the national team player Salem Al-Hajri was injured and would not participate in the 2021 Gold Cup, which begins next month in the United States of America. The Qatar Football Association said on its Twitter account this evening, Saturday: “The star of our national team, Salem Al-Hajri, suffered an injury that will prevent him from participating in the 2021 Gold Cup,” wishing the player a recovery. The 2021 Gold Cup will be held in the United States from July 10 to August 2, with the participation of 16 teams, including the Qatar national football team (the 2019 Asian champion). Qatar, the 2019 Asian Cup champion, is the seventh country to be selected and invited to compete in the Gold Cup, and the first in the Arab world, in addition to being the second country representing the Asian Football Confederation to appear in the tournament after South Korea. Previously, teams from outside the Confederation of North, Central America and the Caribbean (CONCACAF) were invited to participate in the tournament, with Brazil (1996, 1998, 2003), Colombia (2000, 2003, 2005), Peru (2000), and Ecuador (2000). 2002), South Africa (2005), and South Korea (2000, 2002). The Qatari team will open its matches in the tournament against its Panamanian counterpart on July 13, then Grenada on July 17, before concluding the group stage with a meeting with Honduras on the 20th of the same month. The Qatar national team, participating as a guest for the first time in the history of the Gold Cup competition, was placed in Group D, along with the teams of Honduras, Panama and Grenada. Mexico, the defending champion, came in Group A with El Salvador and Curaçao and one of the qualified teams, while the United States will play in Group B along with Canada, Martinique and one of the teams emerging from the qualifiers. As for the third group, it included the teams of Costa Rica, Jamaica and Suriname, in addition to one of the teams that emerged from the qualifiers as well.
