Qatar women’s rugby team runner-up to West Asia
The Qatari women’s team won the runner-up to the West Asian Rugby Championship, which concluded at Aspire Stadium, amid a large crowd and a wonderful atmosphere, with the participation of ten teams representing each of the tournament’s host Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, Iraq, Palestine, Lebanon, Iran and Syria. The Qatari women’s rugby team won the second place in the tournament, after losing to its UAE counterpart (41-0) in the final match. While the Qatari men’s team won the third place in the tournament, after defeating its Lebanese counterpart, with a score of (36-10) in the ranking match. The UAE team won the championship title. The competitions of the final day of the tournament were attended by Qais Al-Dali, President of the Asian Rugby Federation, Rabie Al-Masry, President of the Palestinian Rugby Federation and President of the Iraqi Federation, and Mir Mahdi Hosseini, President of the Iranian Federation, along with Youssef Jaham Al-Kuwari, Chairman of the Qatar Sports Committee for Rugby, Hockey and Cricket, Abdullah Aman Al-Khater, Secretary General and Issa Al Yaqoub, Director of Public Relations, Hamad Al Abdullah, Executive Director of the Federation, Salah Al Saadi, Director of the Tournament, and a number of guests. Three victories on the first day of the tournament: over Iraq (54-7), then Syria (12-5) and with the same result, it also beat its Iranian counterpart. In the semi-finals, the Qatari women’s team beat its Syrian counterpart (20-17) to qualify For the final match to face the UAE national team, and take second place in the tournament. The Iranian women’s team ranked third after defeating its Syrian counterpart (5-0) in the third place match. In the men’s competition, the Qatari team won the third place in the championship, after defeating its Lebanese counterpart, with a score of (36-10) in the ranking match. He was the most supportive of men, losing against his Iranian counterpart in his first match (12-19), after he achieved three victories on the first day of the championship over Palestine (58-0), then over the Emirates (25-5), and over Lebanon with a score (22-5), to qualify for the semi-finals to meet his Iranian counterpart, but lost to him by (22-24) .. to play the ordinal match against Lebanon and win the third place in the championship. The UAE men’s team won the championship title after defeating its Iranian counterpart (31-14) in the final match. The final day of the tournament witnessed the participation of the “You are Important Initiative” team, implemented by the Stadium Security Department in the Facilities and Authorities Security Department. The participation was to introduce the fans who attended to watch the tournament with security and safety procedures in stadiums and sports facilities. The team, which was present at the entrances and stands for the fans, explained a number of security guidelines followed in sporting events, which would maintain the safety of everyone while attending such events and activities.
