The City Star was chosen as the best player of the year in England
The Sports Writers Association in England named Manchester City’s Robin Diaz the nation’s player of the year on Thursday. In the race for the award, 24-year-old Diaz beat Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane and his City teammate Kevin De Bruyne, while nine Premier League-crowned City players received more than 50% of the vote. And Diaz became the first defender to win the award since Liverpool defender Steve Nicole won 32 years ago, and the third player to win the award in his first year in the English Premier League, and he was awarded the best player award since 1948, and Stanley Matthews was the first to win it. The Portuguese starred in his first year with City, led by Spaniard Josep Guardiola, after arriving at the Etihad Stadium for $ 92 million from Benfica in September 2020. Diaz contributed to City’s achievement of the League and League Cup double, in addition to reaching the final match of the Champions League competition that will bring him together with his compatriot Chelsea on May 19 in Porto after the match was transferred from Istanbul, Turkey, due to travel restrictions between England and Turkey, following the outbreak of the Corona virus.
