The former Juventus coach reveals the “difficulties” of training Ronaldo
Former Juventus coach Maurizio Sarri detonated a media “bomb”, by talking about the “difficulty of dealing” with Portuguese star Cristiano Ronaldo. Sarri revealed some of his suffering during the training period of Juventus two seasons ago, especially dealing with a global star like Ronaldo. “Cristiano Ronaldo is a global brand, he has special interests and goals, but they must be aligned with the goals of the team,” Sarri said, in an interview with Sport Italia. He added, “Ronaldo’s management was a difficult situation in all respects. I am a technical coach first and not a manager.” But he did not deny the quality of the Portuguese star, who has not stopped his hobby of scoring goals since he came to Juventus in 2018. Sarri said: “There are also positive aspects, because Ronaldo records the numbers at the end of the season. When someone records these numbers, he represents something more than the team.” Sarri, the current coach of Lazio, hinted at the need to abandon Ronaldo, for Juventus in the next stage. Sarri said: “It is up to the club. In my opinion, it is better to give up one player, rather than give up 5 or 6 players.” Sarri trained Juventus for one season, 2019-2020, and won the Italian League title with him, but he was not convinced in the European Championships.
