The UAE unit takes revenge on the Iranian Persepolis
UAE club Al-Wehda shot down Iranian rival Persepolis with a goal without a response in the match that brought them together today, Monday, in the fifth round of the group stage of the AFC Champions League.
The Emirati team owes its victory to its Slovenian striker Tim Matavj, who scored his only winning goal early, in the fifth minute after the whistle blew at the start of the match at the “Jawaher La Nehru – Vatorda” stadium in the Indian city of Margao.
After revenge from the Iranian team for losing it in the opening round (0-1) as well, Al-Wehda raised its score to 10 points, and ranks second in the Group E ranking, to ensure its qualification to the quarter-finals of the tournament, accompanied by Persepolis, the leader with 12 points.
The conflict between the two teams was limited to first place, in the last sixth round, next Thursday, in which Persepolis will meet bottom-ranked Qatari Al-Rayyan with two points, and Al-Wahda will meet with Joa Al-Hindi, who is third with 3 points.
