Ukraine crosses Sweden into the quarter-finals of the European Championships
Ukraine reached the quarter-finals of the European Football Championship with a deadly victory over Sweden 2-1 in added time of the second extra half at Hampden Park in Glasgow. Ukraine, which did not go beyond the group stage in its two previous participations since the separation from the Soviet Union (2012 and 2016), owes its historic qualification to the quarter-finals of substitute Artem Dubvik, who scored the winning goal in the first minute of overtime for the second overtime period. The two teams played additional games after a 1-1 draw in the original time, as Ukraine advanced through Alexander Zinchenko (27) and Emil Forsberg of Sweden (43) who completed the meeting with ten players after Marcus Danielson was sent off in the first overtime period. The two teams played the third extension in this round after the matches between Italy and Austria (2-1) and Switzerland with world champion France (3-3 and the first won on penalties). And Ukraine will meet on Saturday in Rome with England, who beat their rivals Germany 2-0 in their stronghold, Wembley, on Tuesday.
