Uruguayan Araujo injured… and his return to Barcelona
The Uruguayan Football Association announced that Barcelona defender Ronald Araujo had suffered a hamstring injury to miss the World Cup qualifier against Brazil. Araujo, 22, was substituted in the second half during the 3-0 loss to Argentina, and tests on Monday showed a hamstring problem. Uruguay occupies fourth place, which guarantees direct qualification to the finals in Qatar, one point ahead of Colombia, with seven rounds remaining. Araujo will return to his club Barcelona to assess his condition before playing a series of strong matches, including against his guests Valencia and Real Madrid in the Spanish first division and Dynamo Kiev in the Champions League. The absence of Araujo will be a blow to the struggling Barcelona this season under coach Ronald Koeman, as they are ninth in the league and bottom of their group without a balance in the Champions League. But Barcelona received a boost with the return of strikers Osman Dembele and Sergio Aguero to training after a long absence of injury, pending medical permission to play.
