Wimbledon .. Tunisian Jaber meets Venus Williams in the second round
Tunisian Anas Jabeur easily defeated Sweden’s Rebecca Peterson in two sets, and qualified for the second round of the Wimbledon Tennis Championships, the third Grand Slam. And it took Anas Jaber, the 26-year-old ranked 21st in the tournament, in less than an hour to get past the 60th world number, after winning an easy 6-2, 6-1. In the second round, Jaber, ranked 24th in the world, is expected to meet American Venus Williams, ranked 111th in the world and crowned 5 times in Wimbledon, after beating Romanian Mihaela Buzarnescu in two sets to one, 7-5, 4-6, 6-3. Serena’s older sister Venus scored 10 aces to chase 160th-ranked Buzarnescu, AFP reported. It is noteworthy that Jaber became the first Arab player to win a title in the WTA Championships, after winning the final match of the Birmingham Tennis Championships over Russian Daria Kasatkina in two consecutive sets 7-5, 6-4. Jaber has previously reached two finals, the first in Moscow in 2018 when she lost to Kasatkina itself, and in Charleston this season when she lost to Australian Astra Sharma.
